This painting of a reticulated python is the 6th of the snake series. In this painting Benjamin takes on an even more ambitious approach to painting the scales. The zoomed-out perspective means painting a larger number of smaller scales, and Benjamin didn't shy away from the task of drawing them each one by one, with a bit of artistic license on their size and shape. The lack of commitment to any particular colour for the entire snake speaks to the personality and broken ability of the artist to stay focussed on a task. It's a more go-with-the-flow, honest, whimsical approach while still maintaining a form of discipline to paint the scales on the entire body of the snake.
